About Da BOX CSA

The Food Basket Inc. serves as the sole food bank for Hawaiʻi Island. We were founded in 1989 with a powerful mission to “end hunger.” We address immediate food needs through the collection and distribution of food, including special programs serving seniors and keiki. Food comes from donations and from our direct purchases. We distribute food to over 100 food pantries, soup kitchens and other community service providers.

Enhancing the wellness of our communities is one of our top priorities. We strive to do this by purchasing locally. By supporting local farmers, we are strengthening the foundation for meeting Hawaiʻi’s food needs. Additionally, we offer services that make healthy food more affordable for low-income residents, such as assistance in signing up for the federal SNAP program and the administration of DA BUX discounts for local produce at food retailers. Lastly, we offer DA BUX discounts through our own retail operation, DA BOX CSA, which works to purchase and aggregate produce from Hawaiʻi Island farms and resell as a subscription through island wide pick-up sites.
