Roots Cultural Food Hub: Bridging Health & Tradition through Local Produce
Roots Cultural Food Hub in Kalihi champions health through local, organic produce. Supporting 60+ growers, they connect the community via food and tradition.
The Returning to Our Roots Program was created in 2011, as an ʻāina to table initiative to address the social determinants of health by using food to help the community make connections to healthy behaviors and lifestyles. Roots is inspired by the resilient spirit of the Kalihi community and works to value common cultural traditions and honors the connections individuals and communities have to one another through the growing, preparing, and sharing of food.
Roots Cultural Food Hub Highlights
Since 2015, The Roots Cultural Food Hub has supported over 60 small farmers, backyard growers and non profit organizations across Oʻahu by providing local, organic and affordable local fruits, vegetables, cultural starches, value added products and proteins to the Kalihi community.
